The Importance of Well Child Physicals

February 24, 2023, 2:25 PM
How a well-child physical can protect your child’s health
Prevention is the best way to ensure your child stays healthy. A big part of prevention is a well child physical. Regular well-child physicals can identify potential health concerns, so they can be addressed early.
Gabrielle Maxwell PA-C at Integrated Medical Group B & A Pediatrics in Pottsville, PA, provides a wide range of pediatric medical services, including well-child physicals to protect your child’s health.
Well child physicals should happen at least once each year. Your child may need them more often when your child starts school or wants to play a sport. Several important steps occur during a well-child physical, including:
  1. Measuring your child’s height, weight, and other factors to maintain a record of growth and development
  2. Performing a comprehensive physical examination, checking muscle strength, balance, flexibility, and other factors
  3. Performing a hearing screening and a vision check
  4. Ordering any laboratory testing necessary to check for underlying medical conditions
  5. Answering any questions you may have about your child’s eating, sleeping, behavioral, or other issues.

Well-child physicals also provide an opportunity for your child to receive the necessary vaccinations to attend daycare and school. When your child is immunized, it protects your child, your household, and you from infectious, contagious illnesses and diseases like flu, meningitis, and more.
